About the city
Heihe is a prefecture-level city in northern Heilongjiang Province, in Northeast China. It lies on the southern bank of the Amur River, directly across from Blagoveshchensk in Russia. This border location makes it a national-level frontier open city and one of the principal gateways for Sino-Russian trade and cross-border cooperation in the Far East. Its administrative area covers the urban district of Aihui and several surrounding counties and county-level cities.
Heihe's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture, forestry, food processing, and energy-related industries. In recent decades, border trade, cross-border e-commerce, logistics, and import processing have become increasingly important. The city functions as a commercial corridor for Chinese and Russian goods, supported by river-border infrastructure and growing service industries.
For business travelers and the exhibition industry, Heihe serves as a border trade and B2B negotiation hub. Its role in China-Russia commerce attracts participants involved in food, timber, agricultural equipment, consumer goods, and regional investment promotion. Although it is not among China's largest convention cities, its specialized cross-border trade environment gives it a distinct function in Northeast Asia-oriented trade fairs and business events.
